I love freshening up my house after the holidays. I live in Colorado and we still have a lot more winter ahead before we can start thinking about spring,(In fact it’s snowing outside right now!) but making just a few changes to our living room, keeps it looking warm but fresh and inviting into the New Year. (Also- I always get asked about Winston: He is a 160lb Saint Bernard. We love him to pieces, he’s living his best life and he’s known all over town and beyond, lol.)
A Deep Clean
Its the perfect excuse to give the room a good, deep cleaning. Vacuuming and dusting all the nooks and crannies that get overlooked in the average day to day chores and then shampooing the carpets and rugs makes everything smell fresh and clean (I use this small carpet cleaner every week). I like to go over our furniture with this cleaner. It’s non-toxic, cleans really well, keeps the leather soft and doesn’t have an overpowering scent. Lastly, I clean all the glass in the room, including the doors and it really makes everything sparkle.
Textured Blankets and Pillows
To brighten up our leather furniture I added some new pillows and blankets. Staying with cream and white colors, I found some inexpensive pillow covers with different textures. Switching up your pillow covers is a great way to inject new life into your decor! If you need inserts, you can’t go wrong with these down pillow inserts at 2 for $19. The quality is excellent and they give you that “plush” look that you want for your decorative pillows.
Textured blankets are great to keep things looking warm and cozy in the winter and I love a blanket to wrap up in when we’re watching TV at night.
I also love these faux fur throws! I use these things everywhere. They look nice on the back of a couch or chair, on the hearth or on the floor. I currently have them on our Adirondack chairs on our deck but they get moved around quite a bit.
Plants and Candles
As I said in another post, I’m currently embracing my inner, crazy plant lady and I’m working my way to a real problem, lol. I adore using plants for decorating. I keep things on the more modern side by using modern and boho style planters. Most plants are easily propagated so one plant can eventually give you a lot more to place in other areas of your home.
New candles add warmth and polish wherever you place them. I like the more modern look of this one and the scent is really nice without being over powering or perfumed.
I like to change up the scents in my diffuser in the living room at this time of year as well. Citrusy scents as well as lavender help to create a warm, inviting room that feels fresh and new after the holiday.
On our fireplace mantle I’m loving the simplicity of eucalyptus garland right now. I added some simple white pillar candles in varying heights.
Do you freshen up your decor after the holidays or do you find peace and comfort in keeping things the way they are in your home? I’m a changer-upper for sure!
