The previous space I was working with looked like this.
Our new home has a very rustic looking master bath with a lovely stone shower and marble countertops, but there is no space for a vanity table in there and there is just no way I can go back to putting my makeup on standing up. For one thing- I NEED the magnification mirror, thanks to my over 40 eyesight!
Check out the video tour here- If you’d like to shop the products I use, I’ve provided links at the end of this post.
My solution has been to commandeer a corner of the bedroom for now. My daughter had asked us to keep her writing desk at our home so I repurposed it into my DIY vanity table. It has a cute, rustic look to it, so it fits in the room nicely.

The mirror is small-ish but does the job with decent lighting as well as 2 different magnification levels. You can buy it here.
You won’t see any of my skin care things here, they are all in my bathroom on the counter. The only exception is a sample of Uma Brightening Oil, which I use lightly, before applying make-up. I will be buying the full size soon. This has a pleasing, light ,exotic scent, and more than that, it provides a really pretty, dewey glow to my skin. I really like it.
You can see that I just used various glasses to store things in and I like the effect: useful but not TOO utilitarian, and it dresses up the rustic look a bit.
The “marble” trays are just stiff cardboard covered in marble contact paper to protect the desk. You can get the contact paper here. I was really happy with this paper when it came in because it really looks like actual marble.
I’ve had the white “fur” throws forever, and you can get them here. I think they are pretty much obligatory for any vanity table and they too, take the rustic feel down a notch.
Mario Badescu Facial Spray
The one product that I am so jazzed about recently is this rosewater facial spray from Mario Badescu.

I still use my faithful Evian for setting my makeup….it’s never failed me.
One does not toss aside products one has used successfully since high school!
Trying to be an adult, I’ve been searching for a signature fragrance. I stumbled upon an amazing deal from Sephora. For $65 you get this entire box of mini size, high end fragrances AND a coupon for a FREE large size of whichever one you choose! Its a LOT of very good fragrance for the $$. Check it out here.

Oh I love it! So sweet! And a very nice space. Great job on the video 🙂 P/S Mario Badescu products rock!
So fun! I love your video about your vanity. I live in the mountains of Idaho and made my vanity out of an old wooden computer desk and it is perfect for me. I love it. I did a Snapchat video but think I will do one for my blog now! I’m on my phone typing this so sorry for typos it is tiny print! Peace!

Thank you Cheryl! YES! Definitely do a video!I would LOVE to see how you set up your vanity. I think it’s fun to see how other people do things, especially when it maybe isn’t the the cookie cutter version that we see over and over on social media-(I mean, I like a set of shiny white IKEA drawers with fairy lights as much as the next girl, but c’mon! LOL!) I’ll keep a look out for your video! Thanks for reading and commenting-maybe we will get to Idaho soon!
